This year’s 'beach season' in the Hungarian capital starts on Saturday 27 April, with the opening of Palatinus, Dagály and Paskál thermal baths. Árpád Forrásfürdő will open again from 18 May, while traditional summer 'strands' - as they're known in Hungary - like Római and Pünkösdfürdő will open in June - see below for all opening dates.

African swine fever (ASF) has been wreaking havoc in Ukraine near the Hungarian border since the middle of 2017. However, Hungarian authorities are still denying that there is an epidemic. They announced the first confirmed cases of ASF only in April 2018, even though wild boars had been dying by the hundreds long before that time.

"Laci Magyar, an 18-month-old Hungarian boy who had been kept alive by an artificial heart for the last few months, died on Thursday. The boy received the artificial heart in June."
